Reggeborgh Skating Team wraps up the season with volunteer work
Across several locations - from IJsbaan Twente to Athletics Club in Rijssen and a primary school in Enschede - the past week was all about sport and fun for young and old alike. On behalf of the Reggeborgh Foundation, the entire skating team took part as volunteers.
Partner day
At IJsbaan Twente, the ice was buzzing with excited kids and proud parents, ready for a special skating experience. No fewer than 75 kids, aged 8 to 18, took to the ice for a clinic led by Olympians Jenning de Boo, Femke Kok, and Antoinette Rijpma-De Jong.
On the ice, everyone was focused - from sharp turns, powerful starts to technique and agility. The clinic ended with a relay race, where everyone gave it their all one last time. The main goal? Having fun together on the ice. At the end, every child got a medal and an autograph card.
This morning was organized especially for our partners VolkerWessels, Prescan, Reggeborgh Invest, and DW Property.
Ice Festival
In the afternoon, it was time for the annual Ice Festival by Stichting Goal, welcoming around 250 elderly people and adults with intellectual disabilities. The vibe was already great from the start—buses arriving, cheerful music from a brass band setting the tone.
Reggeborgh skaters Patrick Roest, Jasper Krommenhoek, and Wesly Dijs kicked things off with a skating demo, followed by performances from local figure skaters. And then… everyone hit the ice together! Thanks to the skaters, Reggeborgh Research Fellows, and lots of volunteers from our partners, everyone could enjoy skating. Some were on the ice for the first time, while others reminisced about old memories—it brought smiles to everyone. The WensAmbulance was also there, so even elderly people on stretchers could take a spin on the ice.
The day wrapped up with a flag parade on the ice, featuring all the care organizations. Participants and volunteers waved their flags, and everyone joined in singing the Dutch national anthem.
Clinic Running Team Reggeborgh Harmeling and Handbal School Twente
At AV Rijssen’s athletics track, coach Dennis van der Gun and skaters Antoinette Rijpma-De Jong, Tim Prins, and Sil van der Veen ran a clinic for the young talents from Running Team Reggeborgh Harmeling and Handbal School Twente.
Dennis talked about the journey from talented youngster to top athlete and what it takes—physically and mentally. Then it was Q&A time, with athletes, trainers, and coaches asking the skaters all their questions. After that, the young talents couldn’t wait to hit the track. Training was intense, full of energy, and there was great interaction between the runners and handball players. The clinic ended with the usual autograph session.
YUMAN School Tour – Obstacle Run at Primary School La Res
At La Res primary school in Enschede, skaters Marcel Bosker, Louis Hollaar, and Johan Talsma helped out as volunteers for the YUMAN Race school tour clinic. Reggeborgh Foundation proudly sponsors the school tour, which encourages kids to sport. During the clinic, students got their first taste of obstacle running.
A challenging course was set up on the playground with all sorts of obstacles, and the kids jumped in enthusiastically, moving, laughing, and having a great time.
