Ice skating fun, hot chocolate and lots of warm hearts at Stichting GOAL IJsfestijn
As every year, on the last weekend that the ice rink is open, vulnerable elderly people and people with intellectual disabilities are invited to enjoy an afternoon of ice skating fun. This year, employees from DW Property, Prescan, VolkerWessels and Reggeborgh Invest volunteered their time. With a healthy dose of enthusiasm they worked together to ensure that everyone had an unforgettable day.

From brass band to skating demonstration
The atmosphere was already great when the buses arrived and the cheerful sounds of the brass band “de Hofbloazers” rang out across the grounds. At the entrance, volunteers were ready to welcome everyone warmly and escort them inside. While enjoying coffee, tea and hot chocolate, all attendees were able to watch demonstrations by marathon skater Crispijn Ariëns of Marathonteam Reggeborgh and the figure skaters of TRKV Pirouette.

Rolling across the ice
Then it was time to take to the rink themselves. The real daredevils got straight down to business, while others, with a little encouragement, slowly rolled over the icy threshold. Volunteers enthusiastically pushed wheelchairs across the ice, and for those who preferred to be in control, there were special ice frames to safely glide across the ice. Meanwhile, on the sidelines, everyone enjoyed pea soup – because even if you weren't on the ice, there was plenty to enjoy.

And then... the grand finale!
For those who still had energy left, there was a spectacular 100-metre sprint at the end of the afternoon. Duos consisting of a skater and a wheelchair user gave it their all to be the first to cross the finish line. After a festive award ceremony and a warm farewell, this fantastic day came to an end.
Everyone went home with a big smile. An afternoon full of fun and togetherness.
See you next year!
