Kimberley Bos in action for Stichting Haarwensen
Kimberley Bos competed in the recent Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina in her discipline skeleton. In addition to her sporting career, she is also committed to helping others. As an ambassador for Stichting Haarwensen, Kimberley has launched a fundraising campaign together with Philine to support children who need a hairpiece.
Kimberley became an ambassador for Stichting Haarwensen, an organization she has been involved with for many years. Since her teenage years, she has donated her hair multiple times. Using donated hair, often combined with that of others, the foundation creates hairpieces for children and young people who lose their hair due to conditions such as alopecia or medical treatments.
In the run-up to the Olympics, Kimberley announced that she would once again donate her hair and launched a fundraising campaign together with Philine. Philine has alopecia and therefore wears a hairpiece from Stichting Haarwensen. Through this initiative, they aim to encourage people to contribute financially, as in addition to donated hair, funding is essential to actually produce these hairpieces.
Before the Olympic Games, Kimberley and Philine met. For Kimberley, the decision was clear: her hair would be given a new purpose. “I’ve had enough of it, and other children need it much more,” she explains. Philine is one of those children. Together, they measure Kimberley’s hair to see if it is long enough for donation. During this moment, Philine shares why a hairpiece from Stichting Haarwensen is so important to her.
After the Olympic Games, Kimberley and Philine meet again at the hair salon for a special moment: the donation of Kimberley’s hair. It turns out to be long enough, and Philine is given the honor of making the first cut. With this campaign, Kimberley hopes to raise awareness for Stichting Haarwensen, because: “A beautiful braid alone isn’t enough. You also need funding to turn it into a proper hairpiece, so that children without hair can once again have hair on their heads.”
