This season, Marathon Team Reggeborgh is committed to Ronald McDonald House Zwolle and Ronald McDonald Living Room Enschede. A unique skating suit was designed especially for this cause, which was worn by Crispijn Ariëns and Bart Hoolwerf during the AKM competition on the Weissensee. These two suits will be auctioned off in a special auction.
The collaboration between Marathon Team Reggeborgh, Ronald McDonald Living Room Enschede, Ronald McDonald House Zwolle and Reggeborgh Foundation came about as a result of a personal story from Bart Hoolwerf. Friends of his lost their seriously ill newborn daughter Veerle and received a lot of support from the Ronald McDonald House at the time.
When a child is in hospital, as a parent you want only one thing: to be close by. The Ronald McDonald House Zwolle offers families a place to stay close to the hospital, so that parents and siblings can catch their breath and still be with their child within minutes. In Enschede, there is a Ronald McDonald Living Room in Medisch Spectrum Twente: a homely place within the hospital where parents (and often brothers and sisters) can relax between examinations and consultations—with volunteers on hand to offer a cup of tea, a listening ear and a moment of peace.
